BREAKING NEWS: CPP Unanimously Agree to Vote for PM Hun Sen as PM Candidate and Hun Manet as Future PM Candidate

PHNOM PENH: The 43rd Central Committee Meeting of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) was held on Friday morning, under the high Presidency of Prime Minister Hun Sen, Party President, and National Assembly President, Heng Samrin, Honorary President of the Party, including the Vice Presidents of the party, Senate President, Say Chhum, and Minister of Interior, Sar Kheng.

According to the official statement on the outcomes of the Central Committee meeting released by the CPP, 775 out of a total of 865 members were in attendance. The statement continued that the conference was held in the spirit of unity, democracy and the highest responsibility for the cause of the nation and the people, and achieved the following results:

1. Election of Minister of Defense, Tea Banh, and Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, Men Sam An, as Vice Presidents of the party;

2. Agreement to continue to support Prime Minister Hun Sen as the Prime Ministerial candidate in the upcoming 2023 election, and the decision to unanimously elect Hun Manet as the future Prime Ministerial candidate;

3. Discussion of some issues on the implementation of the joint plan towards the upcoming Commune and District Council Election Fifth Mandate, 2022;

4. An in-depth understanding reached on the situation in 2021, and the vision and direction of the party’s main tasks in 2022.

The statement includes that the Central Committee calls on the members of the CPP on all levels to strengthen solidarity and internal unity and to strive to continue to implement the party's political programs and decisions successfully to serve the highest interests of the nation and its people.

The statement continued that the Central Committee calls on all compatriots, both at home and abroad, to continue to unite as one under the umbrella of the Constitution and the shadow of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, in order to maintain peace, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity at the highest order, so that Cambodia can be strong and stable forever.

At the same time, the Central Committee asks all compatriots to continue strictly implementing health safety measures to prevent the resurgence of Covid-19, and to work together to restore and develop Cambodia's socioeconomic situation after the pandemic.
